THE Shaw and Whitley WI met this month for an update on past, current and future activities.
WI member Jacqueline Giddings said, “In our June meeting we were treated to a talk from Val Proctor entitled ‘Bless this Child’ She brought along christening gowns and nightdresses dating from 1850’s to the present day. They were passed round for us to marvel at the intricate hand sewing of the early gowns to the knitted and crocheted modern gowns.
“We were reminded of the forthcoming events, a garden visit to Alington Grange on Thursday 29th June, a theatre trip to see Lady in the Van at Bath’s Theatre Royal on Saturday 19th August
“We were also told about events organized by WI Wiltshire Embroidery for the Terrified, a treasure trail for all the family round Warminster, a trip to the American Museum, a tablet or laptop workshop, an International Day looking at Scandinavian culture and customs, with a taster smorgasbord Lunch, a visit to Lydiard turkey farm to see turkey processing facilities and a tour of the sheep cows and wildlife habitats.
“We were informed about some of ours members monthly visit to Mavern House.
“We heard about the golf morning at Whitley Golf Club when eight of our members had a golf lesson, which was enjoyed by all. Some members might even go for another lesson.
“At our next meeting on Monday 10th July 10th, we have a talk entitled ‘Life Below Stairs’.

“We are also having a coffee morning. Please come and sample our lovely cakes at the Reading Rooms Whitley on Thursday 3rd August from10.30am until 12pm. There will also be tables selling accessories like scarves and a wonderful assortment of cakes.”
