A lot has happened with the Melksham Gardeners’ Society over the past couple of months.
Cary Hopkins, Melksham Gardeners’ Society secretary said, “In October, we had a talk by Kate Collyns about Dealing with Pests. This was one of our most entertaining talks that we had all year.
“Kate produces crops commercially but as close to organically as she can and provided us with entertaining stories about how she has battled various pests from bugs to deer and badgers. We were given tips on how to manage pests ourselves. A very enjoyable evening – so thank you Kate.
“We then had a trip to Westonbirt Arboretum with the maples in their full coats of colour, albeit on an extremely cold day. However, I think nearly everyone walked a minimum of 7 miles that day and with the hot tea and chocolate, I don’t think anyone really felt the cold!
“Our annual Christmas meeting at the Rachel Fowler Centre was held on November 28th. We made our Christmas wreaths with Barbara Cropp, our Chair, demonstrating how to create them with flair. Congratulations to Penny Windebank who won with her wreath – unfortunately, although photos were taken, a technical glitch meant they were too fuzzy to reproduce; all the wreaths were, however, beautifully turned out.
“Thank you to all the club members for attending throughout the year and supporting the MGS, we hope you have had a good gardening year. Thank you to the committee for all the hard work in voluntarily running the club and organising the events and trips and to all our speakers throughout the year.
“The next meeting will be on Tuesday 29th January at the Rachel Fowler Centre at 7.30pm with a talk from one of our favourite guest speakers: Ray Broughton.
“New members and guests are always welcome. Door entry is £1 for members, £2 for guests and annual membership is only £10 – tea, coffee and biscuits are also available for 50p at each meeting.”
