Atworth WI held their September meeting on Monday 17th when the speaker was Alan Lank from the Wilts and Berks Canal Trust.
Helen Snowball reports, “He told us about the history of the canal and its demise as the railway took over as a means of transporting goods. It was fascinating to hear about the recent ambitious restoration and rebuilding of sections of the canal and the projects already planned to be undertaken by the Trust and their enthusiastic volunteers.
“We heard reports of activities that had taken place over the summer which included our annual cream tea party at a member’s house and a skittles evening at the White Hart in the village. We also heard from members who had been on courses at Denman recently; a Mediterranean cooking course and a course entitled ‘Blenheim Palace and the Dukes of Marlborough,’ which included a guided tour of the palace.
“Also this month we had a craft afternoon and chat at a member’s house and did our monthly litter pick in the village.
“We are busy preparing for our Autumn Fair which will be on November 3rd at 10am at the Village Hall.
“Our next meeting is on Monday 15th October at 7.30 pm when Louise Hull will tell us about osteopathy, introduction and headaches. Visitors are welcome, do come along and meet our friendly group.”
