The Melksham Cancer Research group are celebrating another successful year after seeing their fundraising total rise to over £32,000.
Marie Bucknell-Smith chair of the group said, “it’s been a positive year which has seen us raise over £12,000 over the last ten months – £3,000 going specifically to Stand up To Cancer in October. Marie continued, I’d like to thank everyone who has supported us throughout the year, without them we would not be able to fund more research and clinical trials to save further lives. I would also like to thank the Melksham Group: Liza, Christine, Dave, Susan and Rob for all of their support, dedication and commitment they each have contributed during the groups’ formation. Cancer Research UK’s bold ambition is to accelerate progress within the next 20 years so that at least three quarters of people survive the disease. Through our research, we’ve helped double UK survival rates over the past 40 years. But we can’t stop there, with continued support our research can deliver breakthroughs that save millions of lives and accelerate our progress against this devastating disease.
For 2015 we really need more people to either join the group or who are able to hold their own events like, coffee mornings or cake sales at work to help us raise funds. Whatever people are able to do will be greatly appreciated. Marie will be standing down from her chair role in February 2015 to concentrate on promoting her published book, ‘Once the Fog Has Lifted’ by MD Letts to raise more funds for Cancer Research UK. Marie said, although I have enjoyed the chair role I am going to be very busy in 2015 with book signings and it would be impossible for me to be able to give 100% to doing both. But I will still be continuing to fundraise for Cancer Research UK as I totally believe in the cause.
