A Melksham care home transformed its reception area into a lively Oktoberfest celebration last month, bringing together residents, their families and their friends for an “unforgettable” evening.
Blenheim House, part of the Berkley Care Group, treated attendees to music, games and authentic German snacks in an event hosted by The Bierkeller Boys, a Bavarian oompah band.
Alongside the music, the Oktoberfest celebration also included a variety of games, which residents and families enjoyed alongside traditional Munich beers, wines, and the classic German snacks of bratwurst and pretzels.
The celebration was hosted to raise donations for the home’s chosen charity, Huntington’s Disease Association. The celebration raised over £100 for the organisation, which supports people in England and Wales affected by the genetic neurodegenerative brain condition Huntington’s disease.
One resident praised the Oktoberfest celebrations as a “great night and much enjoyed”, giving “special thanks” to the entertainment team at Blenheim House.
Chris Preston, Blenheim House’s events manager said, “Our Oktoberfest celebration was a fantastic success, bringing residents, families, and friends together in the true spirit of community. The event was a great hit, and residents were still talking about it for days afterwards.
“Seeing our residents and their families enjoy the day made the hard work worthwhile. We are incredibly grateful to all our staff and volunteers who participated in making the event such a success.”
