The much-loved Melksham Carnival will return this weekend, with more than 30 entries set to bring colour, music and celebration to the town’s streets.
The procession will take place on Saturday 18th July, leaving from Church Street Car Park at 6pm.
The annual event will feature floats, fancy dress, performances and carnival favourites, bringing together local groups, schools and individuals.
Carnival committee member Michelle Brightwell said the event is all about community involvement.
“We want as many people to be involved as possible,” she said. “Our whole ethos is that we are a community carnival and we are keen to have people join us who don’t have to spend money.
“If you have got an old costume from World Book Day or a sports uniform, get it out and join in. You don’t have to have an expensive trailer with lights and luminous things on, that is not what we’re about.”
Returning favourites will include The Top Hat Riders, princesses and carnival royalty.
Entries will be judged on the day, with prizes awarded for standout floats, groups and performances.
Road closures will be in place from 5.30pm.
