Local residents are being invited to take part in a community flash mob to open this year’s Sham Jam Festival in Melksham.
The performance, led by Mojo Moves, will take place at 6pm on Friday 18th September and organisers hope to attract hundreds of people of all ages and abilities.
The flash mob will be performed to Don’t Stop Me Now’ by Queen and is designed to be easy to learn, with no previous dance experience needed.
Residents will be able to learn the routine through an online choreography video before taking part on the day. Organisers hope the event will bring together individuals, families, schools, dance groups, community organisations and local clubs.
Open rehearsals will be held at Melksham Assembly Hall on Wednesday 16th September from 6.30pm to 7.30pm. No booking is required.
More information, including choreography videos and rehearsal resources, will be released in the coming weeks.
Anyone interested in taking part can register by emailing community@melksham-tc.gov.uk.
The event is sponsored by Wiltshire and Swindon Sport. Health and Wellbeing Director Dominique Oughton said, “Wiltshire & Swindon Sport is delighted to support this fantastic community event. Dance is a brilliant way to bring people of all ages together, encouraging people to move more, connect with others and celebrate creativity. We’re proud to be part of an event that showcases the power of physical activity, culture and community.”
The Sham Jam Festival runs from 18th to 27th September and will feature music, arts, comedy, literature and community events at venues across Melksham.
