MELKSHAM Seniors will celebrate the International Day of Older People next week with a fun day packed full of activities, information about support, singing, and most importantly, tea and cakes!
The special fun day will be held at the Forest Community Centre next Monday, 1st October, from 1pm until 4pm and all over 55s in the community are invited to attend for free.
At the jam-packed event there will be a ‘Sing and Smile’ session led by Sue Stone; light exercise to music led by the club’s health and keep fit facilitator Clare Webber; an introduction to antiques from a local antiques dealer; information on home security from Wiltshire Police; a visit from Lowbourne Osteopaths with information about the support they offer older people; information from Melksham Shed about the benefits of joining their club; and an afternoon cream tea and cakes provided by Wiltshire Foods.
President of Melksham Seniors, Brian Warwick says, “Do come along and enjoy a nice afternoon cream tea provided by some of our members. You can also enjoy some great cakes provided by Wiltshire Foods.
“We are delighted that a local antiques dealer is going to give us an introduction to antiques and curios. They will also be prepared to value, without obligation, any of your precious items you bring along.
“Our health and keep fit facilitator, Clare Webber, will be present at the fun day. She will be helping to guide you through light exercises for keeping fit and fun movement to music, which always give us a great laugh, as well as helping our balance and improving health.
“There will be great fun with our ‘Sing and Smile’ sessions led by Sue Stone. They say that ‘singing is like an infusion of the perfect medicinal remedy, the kind that both soothes your nerves and elevates your spirits’. Don’t just take my word for it, come along and witness the uplifting effects for yourself. Come and enjoy being part of the fun and feel the happy energy that’s generated at every session.
“Melksham Shed Club members will also have a presence in their gazebo and will be happy to tell you more about their excellent contribution to having a happy lifestyle.
“Wiltshire Police Bobby van personnel will be available to guide you on security at home.
“We are also pleased that Lowbourne Osteopaths are supporting upcoming International Week of Old People. They will have a number of their therapists available to chat to you about services they can offer you.
“Also Lyn Green, a counsellor from Lowbourne Osteopaths, will be available to talk to people regarding loneliness and isolation and give tips. We hope they will also send some osteopaths along to chat and possibly offer a postural assessment, depending on time and suitability.
“Lowbourne Osteopaths are also offering free 15-minute osteopathic assessments, and plan to extend those to older people along with a 10% discount for the month of October, so do take advantage.
“Do come and join us and enjoy your new free spirit of new opportunities in later life. Why not come along and meet other similar-minded Melksham Seniors who desire to continue to get the best out of life.”
