Melksham Town Council, Melksham Area Board and the Melksham Branch of Sainsbury’s have been very supportive of Melksham Scout Group over the last couple of years, contributing funding to refurbishment projects which are now just being completed.
There is a strong link with the Scout Group with Sainsbury’s employee Adam Baxter now running the Cub Section, having previously been a Young Leader. The area to the rear of the Scout HQ has been cleared of all the overgrowth, brambles (and rat hiding places!) and the broken drains excavated and replaced. This rear area has now been transformed into a usable space for the children to use all year round, particularly for camp fire activities.
The rotten, ill fitting doors and windows were recently replaced and the whole premises are now much more secure, safer, warmer, water tight and wheelchair accessible.
The Scout Group held their annual Summer Fayre on Saturday 19th July, and invited representatives from Sainsbury’s, Melksham Town Council and Area Board to come along and see all the good work that had been done. Visitors were also able to meet the leaders, committee members, parents and most of all the children that are benefitting from the improved conditions. The group held a sausage sizzle at lunchtime.
