CELEBRATIONS were the order of the day at Melksham Free Dining this month.

“Diners Michael and Sybil celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary amongst friends,” said Louisa Lewis from Melksham Free Dining, “together with Betty who celebrated her 72nd birthday. Plus, we were celebrating being open for six months. It is wonderful to be part of our diners’ special days, which makes our Wednesdays both exciting and memorable.
Melksham Free Dining launched last September, offering a free meal on Wednesdays at Bowerhill Village Hall. The team served 14 people on their first day.
“We now have 42 diners and it’s so encouraging to see how both the charity and the diners have blossomed,” said Louisa. “We have become a family , caring for each and every one of our diners according to their needs and their wishes.”
To celebrate their six months of success, and to raise funds, Melksham Free Dining is holding a Table Top Sale at Bowerhill Village Hall on Saturday 26th March from 11am to 2pm.
All the goods have been donated by local residents and include perfume, jewellery, games, toys , household items, Easter and Mother’s Day gifts, plus much more. There will also be complimentary cake and coffee, together with free chocolate eggs for the children from the Easter bunny!
“We have been overwhelmed by both the quantity and the quality of the donations,” said Melksham Free Dining trustee, Deedee Macleod. “Our residents must be at the top of the leader board for kindness and generosity. We hope they will come on Saturday March 26th to see how much their generosity means to us.”
“We are looking forward to the next six months with great enthusiasm,” added Louisa. “We have new recipes and fun-filled after-lunch activities. If you are someone or you know someone that could benefit from joining our happy group of diners, please call me on 01225 374232. In the meantime, we look forward to seeing you at our Table Top Sale. Please come and support us.”
