COMPETITORS taking part in a gruelling cycling challenge will be coming to Melksham next month – and there’s still time to sign up to take part.
The event, called YAW100K Cycle Sportive, takes place on Sunday 14th August, and will be raising money for Youth Action Wiltshire, a local charity that works to help young people overcome challenges in their lives and create brighter futures for themselves.
Organisers say, “The annual YAW100K Cycle Sportive starts from Melksham Town Football Club on a route that will take participants on a scenic course along the roads across Salisbury Plain and through the beautiful Avon Valley. Just over halfway will be a feed station located in the village of Enford to allow riders the opportunity to refuel. The route continues along the edge of the Marlborough Downs before returning to Melksham.
“The event which is backed by British Cycling will give those that have discovered cycling in the past couple of years an opportunity to complete a metric century (62-miles) and also provide more experienced cyclists with a worthy challenge. All finishers will receive a medal and a High-5 goody pack, with all profits from the event going to young person’s charity Youth Action Wiltshire.”
