Sat. 16th Nov. Dorset & Wilts 1 North Melksham 20 Frome II 8
Melksham were successful in their first meeting with Frome ll, winning 20-8.
Frome, who had so far sat at the top of the league, fought valiantly against a determined and organised home side.
Melksham’s Matt Glover striking with the first points from a ball whipped across field from a scrum where Glover powered his way through defenders, the conversion failing as it bounced off the posts. Frome gained their points from a penalty mid half to start their tally. With most of the possession and territory, Melksham were unable to add to the score and found themselves with only a slim lead of 5-3 at half time.
At the start of the second half the home team were first to more points with a blistering run in from captain Nick Suter with a strong individual score. Other opportunities to add points slipped away and Frome closed again to two points with a fine try. All to play for, Melksham defence continued to thwart attacks and mounted reposts of their own, with Ben Brown darting off the pack stepping defenders to score his first try for team. The seven-points cushion increased when Jacek Gronkowski’s quick tap and go to make yards into the visitors’ half, passing to the supporting Phil Stone, to finish with a flourish and settle the score 20-8.
