AS Avon Bowls Club’s outdoor bowling season is drawing to a close, members are finishing the season with a charity match.
“Sadly, the end of the outdoor bowling season is drawing to a close but Avon Bowls Club is ending theirs with a ‘BANG’ on Sunday 20th September by hosting a charity match between the club members in aid of Julia’s House,” explained Pauline Baker, press officer for the club.
“Julia’s House which provides frequent respite care and support for life-limited children and their families in both Wiltshire and Dorset recently received an ‘outstanding’ rating under the new Care Quality Commission inspection guidelines.
“Their work in Wiltshire has also been nominated for the Breakthrough Award at the Third Sector Excellence Awards.
“It is hoped that the building of the first children’s hospice in Wiltshire will become a reality by the middle of 2017 and to this end £3.1million has already been raised towards the target of £3.5million. Support is now needed from the Wiltshire community to raise the remaining amount and also to cover ongoing care costs.
By their efforts on the 20th September Avon Bowls Club is hoping to reduce the amount needed to which end the club is inviting members of the public to come along that afternoon.
“The game begins at 2.00pm (usually a lot of fun is engendered in this annual event) but if bowls isn’t really your thing, come along and support the charity anyway, have some refreshments, purchase raffle tickets, souvenir Christmas stocking fillers from the charity stall – Christmas? What? Yes, less than 14 weeks away – meet the people who are dedicated to running the charity and generally have a wonderful afternoon by helping Avon Bowls Club to raise funds for this very, very worthy cause.
“Everyone at Avon Bowls Club looks forward to welcoming you, and of course Mayor Terri Welch who will be gracing us with her presence. And no, she will not be playing bowls!”
