A melksham couple have been successful in setting up a charity in memory of their 13-year old daughter who died in January after being diagnosed with a brain tumour.
Parents of Evie Clover, Patsy and Bryan Clover, began fundraising in February to raise money to set up a charity offering support to families whose children have been admitted to hospital with life-threatening or life-limiting conditions. The couple’s application to the Charities Commission was approved last week, giving Evie’s Gift, official charity status.
“In a little over three weeks, we have raised over £9,000, have a constitution and 10 trustees ready to start work,” said Bryan. “Patsy and I are absolutely thrilled that something positive has come out of Evie’s tragic death and that we will soon be delivering help that is so desperately needed.
“We hope to be operating across the South West and South Wales, although our constitution allows us to work across the UK.”
“Our website should be live soon and we are already planning a series of fundraising events including the ‘Evie’s Jurassic 13’ on 26th May; a 13-mile hike (one mile for every year of her life) along the Jurassic Coast around Swanage. Evie loved that stretch of coast and spent many hours collecting fossils there.”
