A charity race night at the Melksham Conservative Club this month has raised £2,000 for local sports clubs.
The money raised will be shared between Melksham Town Youth Under 11s, which plans to purchase new training equipment for the Under 11s section, and Whitley Cricket Club which plans to put the money towards new wicket covers at their ground.
“It was great to see the community come together for local clubs and teams which are run by volunteers,” said event organiser David Jenkins. “The money raised will go a long way to helping these teams in a climate where equipment is expensive to buy.”
“I’d like to thank The Westbrook in Bromham for being the main event sponsor and Payne Re-Upholstery, Craybourne Carpentry, Melksham Town FC, Angell Motors, McKenzie and Co Financial Consultants, Jeff Payne, Sachin Pande and Richard Todhunter for each sponsoring a race. Finally, for all those who attended the evening, without the support the event would not have been as great a success as it was and both clubs are very appreciative.”
The Conservative Club has said they aim to update their audio and tv equipment, to ensure the next event is an “even greater success.”
These changes are part of the club’s plan to turn the venue into a central community hub and events venue, holding various quiz nights, race nights and bingo events.
