Children at Bowerhill Primary School learnt why ‘Money Matters’ at a special finance workshop recently, held for the third year running.
Two members of Thomas Porter Wealth Management ran the session, where the children learnt the difference between credit and debit, how to keep a balance sheet, how to spot a scam, and how to manage financial risk.
Headteacher Chris Light said, “Tom and Becky from Thomas Porter Wealth Management delivered the session, and the children’s new-found skills will be put to use through the ever-popular Legacy Enterprise Project.
“Bowerhill Buddies, the school’s parent-teacher association, will support the children by lending them £500, and they will decide how to use this money to make a profit. Any profit they make, they will be able to spend however they’d like to improve the school as their legacy.”
This project began following input from parents during a curriculum relaunch in 2022.
Chris added, “Parents wanted our children to be exposed to real-life learning and financial literacy. We are looking forward to seeing how creative the children are in planning to make a profit and how they will spend it to improve our school.”
