MELKSHAM’S countdown to Christmas begins next weekend as the town’s community Christmas event and lights switch-on will take place.
Everyone is encouraged to join in the festive fun, that will see the Market Place and Assembly Hall transformed into a festive hub, on Saturday 3rd December. The Christmas event, which starts at 1pm, will include over 60 stalls located inside and outside of the Assembly Hall from local groups and charities selling festive crafts, produce, gifts and cards.
Live music will be provided by the Decibelles. There will also be games, face painting, festive stilt walkers, fairground rides, hot food and drink, as well as a Santa’s grotto in the town hall. Eddy the Christmas elf will spread Christmas cheer with elf friend Tinsel. The afternoon will also feature performances by Phoenix Twirl Stars and In2Dance.
The Lazerlight Roadshow will include dancing animals and music, and covers band, Plan of Action, will be performing crowd-pleasing tunes. The Christmas lights will be switched on at 6.30pm and Melksham’s much-anticipated digital Christmas tree will also be illuminated.
Melksham’s mayor cllr Simon Crundell said, “As the nights draw in, we can look forward to another fantastic display, which is being prepared for us by Melksham Christmas Lights Group. We are all immensely excited to see this year’s lights, and I know that the eyes of the whole county will be on Melksham.
“The Christmas market and lights switch-on will be held on Saturday 3rd December and will be a real treat with more stalls, more live entertainment, and more attractions than ever before! Father Christmas will be opening the event at 1pm, before meeting with Melksham children in his Winter Wonderland Grotto. Please do join us for an afternoon of hot food, mulled wine, brilliant entertainment, and amazing Christmas lights!”
