The clock face at St Michael’s church has been repainted and gilded after it was removed in September for refurbishment.
Following the works, the clock was returned to the church last month and reconnected to the tower.
Churchwarden Peter Maslen said, “Paul Silk and colleagues from Wiltshire Steeplejacks hoisted the clock face by ropes across the churchyard and up to the tower, over 60 feet above.
“The clock repairer Simon Gilcrist was inside the tower waiting to connect the mechanism to the face. In a very short time, all was safely completed.”
This month, the clock mechanism will be overhauled for the first time in around 50 years. Peter added, “We will be all set for the next phase, where we hope to return the clock to striking the hours on one of the bells during daylight hours only.
“Currently, funds are not sufficient for this, so if anyone would like to contribute, the church would be very pleased to hear from them. Bank details are on our website.”
