The Melksham Monday Movies coming up at the Assembly Hall are two hit films – The Lady in the Van, starring Maggie Smith, and All the King’s Men, starring David Jason.
Set in 1973 London, The Lady in the Van is about playwright Alan Bennett (Alex Jennings) developing an unlikely friendship with Miss Shepherd (Maggie Smith), a homeless woman who lives in a van in his driveway for the next 15 years.
This will be shown on Monday 4th November, in remembrance of the late Maggie Smith.
All the King’s Men is a drama about the mystery of the Sandringham Company, which disappeared in action at Gallipoli in 1915. Commanded by Captain Frank Beck (David Jason), their estate manager, the men advanced into battle, were enveloped in a strange mist, and never seen again.
This will be shown on Monday 18th November.
Doors for all showings open at 1.30pm and the films start at 2pm. There is a break for tea or coffee and a chance to catch up with friends, before finishing around 4pm. Admission is by donation, with a suggested amount of £4.
