RESIDENTS from Hazelwood Road and the surrounding area have begun work to replace the overgrown and dangerous pathways in Brunswick Park.
The repairs have been made possible after chair of the Friends of Brunswick Park group, Tracy Haslam, was awarded £4,000 after applying for community funding through a scheme called ‘Your Pint Can’ run by Carling and Wetherspoons.
Whilst the money has paid for all the materials needed, Tracy reached out to the community to help her with the labour to dig up the existing pathways. Work began over the Bank Holiday weekend with nearly 20 volunteers joining Tracy to get their hands dirty.
“The response has been amazing, I’m really grateful,” she said. “Everyone has worked really hard and as a team, especially in such hot weather. We have done a lot more than I thought we would, so people are working really quickly. The park is going to look great when it’s done.
“I still need more volunteers to come and help in the weeks ahead. All help is appreciated. Many hands make light work!”
Work will continue every weekend throughout September, with the exception of the 2nd/3rd to avoid clashing with the Melksham Food and River Festival. Refreshments will be provided for all those who help.
The scheme has the support of Wiltshire Council and their contractor idverde UK, who will be helping with the laying of the new paths once the ground has been prepared.
