Residents at Brookside Care Home will soon be enjoying a new commemorative rock garden, thanks to a group of young unemployed learners from The Learning Curve’s Trowbridge Prince’s Trust Team programme.
The team of young people have been working hard in the summer heat to create the new rockery and source supplies, discounts and vouchers from ASDA, Whitehall Garden Centre, Timpsons, Waitrose, Trowbridge Garden Centre, Countrywide and ISS Landscaping, who have generously provided tools, plants and other supplies. Residents have also been getting involved, working with the young people to decorate their own rocks with colours or symbols that have a special meaning to each individual resident.
Care home manager Esther Thomas explained, “Our residents, many of whom have dementia, decided that they would like some form of acknowledgement that Brookside is their ‘home’ and for their families to always have a connection with the home in the future.
“The rockery would have been very difficult to accomplish on our own and we thank the young people from The Learning Curve Trowbridge Prince’s Trust Team for making it possible. This community project will bring enormous joy and comfort to many people.”
This community project is an integral part of the Prince’s Trust Team programme, which is aimed at providing unemployed young people with the skills and confidence to find a job. During the free 12-week course, young people get involved with fundraising, helping communities, completing a work placement and gaining vital qualifications to strengthen their CVs. The Learning Curve delivers three Prince’s Trust Team programmes each year in both Trowbridge and Salisbury.
If you are a charity or non-profit organisation in the Trowbridge and surrounding areas, and need gardening, landscaping, painting and decorating or other work carried out, please get in contact.
Three in four young people on Prince’s Trust schemes move into work, education or training. The Prince’s Trust helps 58,000 young people each year, giving them the confidence and skills to turn their lives around.
