A community space in the heart of Melksham hosted a training day for Christians across the region to learn more about setting up Healing Cafés in their local towns.
Over 30 people from different church groups gathered on 31st March at ‘that meeting space’ in the Market Place for a day of practical teaching by a team from Catalyst4Healing (C4H).
Groups from towns including Yeovil, Shaftesbury and Salisbury, as well as more locally from Bradford-on-Avon, Box, Devizes and Melksham, attended the session to learn more about running their own Healing Cafes.
Over the last three months, a Healing Café has been held at ‘that meeting space’ on the first Monday of each month from 11.30am to 1.30pm.
Co-pastor of GoodNews Church, John Firth, said, “Many of the team and those who attended believe in and have experienced physical and emotional healing through prayer in the name of Jesus Christ and have great stories to tell. However, they make no guarantees, and healing prayer does not replace any medical attention or medication.”
One team member said, “Under no circumstances should you stop doing anything a medical professional or counsellor has advised.”
John said, “Prayer for healing is a regular part of church life. Here in Melksham, many people would be familiar, at least before lockdown, with Christians in the Market Place offering to pray for people. The Healing Café is another way of making the healing ministry more accessible.
“Everyone is warmly welcomed to the café with the offer of free tea and coffee, along with delicious homemade cakes.”
