CONSERVATIVE party candidate, Nick Holder, has been elected to Wiltshire Council following last month’s by-election for the Melksham Without South ward.
The win means that the Conservative Party have held the seat, which was previously held by Roy While who resigned from the role due to ill health.
Cllr Holder, who also sits on Melksham Without Parish Council said, “I was delighted to have been elected to serve as the new Wiltshire Councillor for the Melksham Without South ward. I fought the by-election on a very local basis focusing on a variety of issues.
“In particular, I am strongly opposed to the potential merger between Melksham Without and Melksham Town. I see my election as a strong vindication of this position and will continue to work with the residents’ groups across the whole parish to ensure their voices are heard.
“I am taking over from Roy While who served the community diligently for 16 years and I must pay tribute to the work he did over those years. I would like to thank my family and campaign team for all the support they gave me through the campaign.”
From a possible 4,002, 992 electorates voted in the election, a 24.78% turnout. 11 ballot papers were rejected. The final results were: Vanessa Fiorelli (Liberal Democrats) 388; Nick Holder (Conservative Party) 593 – elected.
