ANDY York in the Littlebrook Centre have launched their BRAND NEW FADING MEMORIES On-Line Copying, Restoration and Printing Service.
“It’s the same service we’ve been offering in store but can now be accessed on line” said Christine. “It is something we have been considering doing for a while and now with everyone’s shopping habits changing completely and to continue to offer the service during Lockdown we felt it was the right time to launch the service.”
Photo restoration, colouring and copying of old photographs has been a big part of their business for many years. Andy can work from images from any medium whether it be prints, negatives, and slides and now digital images, and he can often greatly improve the quality of the finished result from the original. Restoration is possible from virtually any condition and he can even add colour to a black and white print, such as wedding photos etc., all he needs is an idea of the original colours.
“We felt we would now like to offer our service to a wider based customer. It’s surprising how many people know friends and relatives that have moved away or live some distance that have old pictures but do not know where to take them for copying or repair.” Commented Andy.
The copying, restoration, colouring and printing service will now be available in store when they re-open and on-line. Check out their website for details of both services.

The Independent Chapel and Women’s Rights in the 1840s
A document I recently transcribed lists the baptisms performed at the Independent Chapel. This record is especially helpful in that, along with baptisms, a lot of them include birth dates - one of the ways I discover which day someone was born.
The following is taken from a Wiltshire Times article published on 9th November 1878 which reports a speech given during the 100-year services and to celebrate their renovations (what we now know to be the Rachel Fowler Centre).
One speaker, Rev. T. Mann, minister in Trowbridge, talked about the Chapel’s origins when he related how Rev. Honywill came to Melksham and how he’d gone on to remain as the minister for the Independent Chapel for almost 60 years. [Honywill and his family lived on King Street in what we now call “Legion House”.]
