MELKSHAM Town Council has formed a working party to explore how they manage green spaces in the area.
The group has been formed in response to feedback last month about the use of Roundup weedkiller in the closed graveyard of St Michael’s Church, posing a risk to the area’s biodiversity.
Concern about the use of weedkiller has also been raised by organic farmers in Melksham’s allotments, with some users calling for the ban of all pesticides and weedkillers in the area.
The group will investigate how best to manage the green spaces maintained by the town council, which includes the cemetery, play areas, and other green spaces where the council cuts the grass.
Mayor, cllr Adrienne Westbrook, described the project as an ‘enormous piece of work’, but necessary to create a green spaces management policy that is ‘fit for purpose’.
