HI Melksham, I am Claire Forgacs and I am one of the councillors for Forest ward.
I have lived in Melksham with my family for about 26 years and I absolutely love living here. This is probably one of the reasons why I took an interest in becoming a councillor and wanting to have a say in how the town looks, how the residents of the town can be best represented and to get a town they can be proud of.
For many years I worked in Countywide Stores in customer service; I spent a lot of time listening to people talk about Melksham, about how good it is and how bad it is and what could be done to improve it.
Not only did I live in this great town I also got to know a lot more about it from other people. It wasn’t until the local elections in 2010 I believe that I became interested. I had seen the posters up for people for election and thought, ‘I can do that’, and then found a way to get involved.
The first time I was lucky enough to be elected to the town council was in 2013 and I served one term which was a real eye opener and learning curve into how the town council worked and what we are responsible for, and I loved every minute of it. I then took a break due to work commitments and then stood again in 2021 and again was lucky enough to be elected to represent Forest ward.
There are many things happening in Melksham at the moment and we have some great councillors that put a lot of time and effort into projects that will enhance the town to make it safer, cleaner and more user friendly for all residents and I really feel that my biggest role within the council is to help support these councillors with their vision whilst keeping in mind what the people of Melksham also want and speaking out accordingly.
The council as a whole is a great team and we all work together to gain the required results.
