THE countdown has begun for this year’s fun-filled Melksham Carnival.
With just over seven weeks to go until this year’s event, organisers are encouraging groups and businesses to submit their applications to take part in the procession before time runs out.
This year’s carnival procession is taking place one month earlier than normal, on Saturday 29th June.
The move has been made due to security reasons, but organisers are hopeful that the June date will encourage more participants.
To inspire creativity in the town, the carnival committee has shared photos of Melksham carnivals from times gone by on their Facebook page.
Carnival press officer, Christine York, told Melksham News, “Melksham Carnival has always been an important day for the town – there’s so much history! The town’s creativity never fails to surprise me each year – and I look forward to seeing what the groups have in store for us this year.”
Committee chair, Becky Burchell added, “Last year’s carnival was one of the biggest yet and we would like to keep building on that, but we need your help. Entries are open for the carnival procession so whether you are a group, business or individual, give it some thought and come and join the fun. It doesn’t have to be a float, do up a bike, a trolley or just walk! Every year the carnival is the biggest event in the Melksham town calendar. Thousands of people line the streets, which makes it a brilliant opportunity to promote your businesses or clubs.”
