CHRISTMAS might be almost seven weeks away but the hard work has already begun to make sure the lights are better then ever.
The team of volunteers who every year dedicate their own time to ensure the town is as festive as possible is in full swing as the lights and decorations start to go up.
Melksham has built a reputation for having one of the best Christmas lights displays in the region and to achieve this, the volunteer work tirelessly in all weathers.
Paul Weymouth is once again organising the lights and enjoys the challenge of maintaining the town’s excellent Christmas lights reputation. He said, “The preparation began a long time ago and the lights are starting to go up now, much to the delight of many who have commented how great they always are in Melksham. It takes about five weeks to get the town ready as we work towards the big switch-on at the end of November.
“The aim every year is to beat the previous one. That gets harder and harder as the team do such a great job, but we will push the boundaries to improve what is already a hit.
“We do rely on donations to put on such a great display and we are grateful to those that contribute. We are once again having a £250 cash draw to anyone that donates a pound.”
This year’s switch-on will take place on Saturday 23rd November in the Market Place. For more information, or to find out how to support the Christmas Lights group, visit www.melkshamchristmaslights.com
