
THERE’S an exciting line-up at the Assembly Hall in the run up to Christmas.
The entertainment starts this Friday with the Comedy Showcase staring Paul McCaffrey and Mark Olver.
Stand-up comedian and television warm-up artist Mark Olver regularly comperes and headlines for comedy clubs and promoters all over the UK and has supported Russell Howard and Lee Mack on national tours. In 2011 he took his show “Olver: Portrait of a Serial Killer” to the Edinburgh Festival. The show won The Leicester Comedy Festival Best New Show award in 2011. His television warm-up credits include Vicar of Dibley, 8 Out of 10 Cats, 10 o’clock Live, Jonathon Ross, Have I Got News For You and Deal or No Deal.
Stand-up comedian Paul McCaffrey gigs around the country and appears on TV programmes such as in BBC3’s comedy show Impractical Jokers.
Tickets cost £10 on the door, £8 in advance. The show starts at 8pm.
On Friday 18th November, the Jersey Boys tribute to Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons show, Sherry Baby’s, stops off at the Assembly Hall. With spectacular performances of all their hits including Rag Doll, Walk Like A Man, Sherry Baby, Big Girls Don’t Cry, Workin’ My Way Back To You and more, this show is sure to have you out of your seat and dancing in the aisles! Tickets cost £20.
Don’t miss The Searchers live in concert at Melksham Assembly Hall on Tuesday 22nd November – as their remarkable career continues. With such classic hits as, Sweets For My Sweet; Needles and Pins; Don’t Throw Your Love Away; Sugar and Spice and When You Walk In The Room, they boast total record sales well in excess of 50 million and still have great appeal to audiences of all ages.
Their special ‘solo’ concert is a highly entertaining show and has been enthusiastically and warmly received throughout the world. Combined with anecdotes and reminiscences, this fully self-contained concert includes all their famous hits, plus many album recordings, B-sides and a selection of other collector and well known favourites. Dig out your tartan flares for an evening with Les McKeown’s Bay City Rollers on 24th November, performing all the original hits including Bye Bye Baby, Shang-a-Lang, Remember, All Of Me, Summerlove Sensation, Give A Little Love, plus many more. The current Bay City Rollers bring a new energy to all the classic hits and will have you dancing in the aisles. Tickets cost £22.50.
On Thursday 8th December, comedian Mark Steel brings his newest stand up show, Who Do I Think I Am, to the Assembly Hall.
Previously, Mark has written and presented Mark Steel’s In Town on BBC Radio 4 and toured it live around the UK. Mark has presented the BAFTA nominated Mark Steel Lectures for BBC2, is a regular on BBC One’s Have I Got News For You and Radio 4’s Newsquiz. He’s also appeared on BBC2’s QI and Room 101.
His latest show is a surprising and enthralling story told with aplomb. Tickets cost £15.
On Friday 16th December, Pop-Up Bowie – A Tribute to David Bowie comes to Melksham. Paul Anthony was voted the UK’s No.1 David Bowie Tribute Act at the National Tribute Awards 2013 and his act has amazed and entertained audiences throughout the nation. With a full band, Paul will perform two hours of Bowie’s biggest hits taking the audience on a musical journey, experiencing the masterpieces that made the late, great David Bowie the immortal legend he is today.
