A pop-up Advent shop on the high pavement will be open this Saturday for one more session of crafts, storytelling and Christmas fun.
The space on the high pavement will be open this Saturday 20th December, from 10am to 12pm, marking the last session before Christmas. The shop was opened by a group of Christians to share the story behind Christmas.
One of the organisers John Firth said, “As Melksham’s Christmas lights glow across the Market Place and throughout the town and we enjoy the wonderful window displays in the shops, we might be excited or maybe filled with anxiety about the coming season. It’s easy to get swept up in the bustle of preparations or be aware of loneliness, financial difficulties, or bereavement in the lives of those around us.
“Behind the tinsel and to-do lists, Christmas has always carried a deeper message – one that continues to shine brightly in our town. Christmas marks the birth of Jesus, a story of hope that this life isn’t all there is. The gift of Jesus shows us that God’s love is for all of us to receive.
“How blessed we are to have so many organisations reaching out to those in physical and emotional need and a huge number of selfless volunteers who do so much behind the scenes. Do stop by, pop in, take a look and carry on the conversation.”
The shop window displays an advent calendar with daily thought-provoking questions.
Last week, on Saturday 13th December, they hosted a storyteller and international author of over 100 books, Bob Hartman, who shared an interactive Christmas story.
Another organiser, Jan Lloyd said, “This project has brought people together as an expression of our love for the Melksham community. We would love for people to engage with the Christmas story.”
Hannah Thomson added, “It can be tricky in the midst of all the gifts and festive buzz to help kids explore what Christmas truly means. Pop into the shop for a fun way to get those conversations going —expect games, stories, crafts (and sweets) – see you there.”
