CURVES women’s fitness in Melksham raised over £1,700 for charity last month in its annual October fundraiser.
In a string of special events throughout the month, staff and members at the gym in Avonside Enterprise Park raised a grand total of £1,745.42 in aid of Breast Cancer Care.
The amount is a record high for the team there and brings the total raised for charity this year to almost £2,500, after they raised over £700 for Dorothy House in March.
Manager Sue Armstrong says, “I’m over the moon with how much we’ve raised. We raised £1,700 in October last year and it was a hard task to beat that!
“Our members and staff made a great effort and have supported the fundraiser very well, which was great to see. People do enjoy the events we put on and it’s a great way of doing things together and adding an extra social aspect to Curves.”
The biggest contributors to the total raised were two raffles which raised £393; a sponsored ‘body basics’ workout morning by manager Sue, which raised £365; and a sponsored three-hour ‘hula hoopathon’ by Curves member and Melksham News’s Person of the Year 2015, Anne Cranham, which raised £288.
There was a coffee morning, skittles night, ladies’ day, and donations from members as well as donations in lieu of a joining fee for new members.
“We’ve been fundraising here for a long time but in the past two years members and staff have really stepped up their game and raised so much more than before,” Sue said.
“For our new colleague Sharon this was her first fundraising month as a member of staff and we enjoyed having her on board and the enthusiasm she brought to the team.”
