Jack and the Beanstalk is the Melksham School of Ballet, Tap & Modern’s latest production and rehearsals are well under way.
This well-known fairy tale tells the story of Jack, a poor, country boy, who trades the family cow for a handful of magic beans, which grow into an enormous beanstalk reaching up into the clouds. Curious Jack climbs the beanstalk and finds himself in the castle of an unfriendly giant.
The story is communicated entirely by dance, with performers young and old taking to the stage.
The show has been produced and choreographed by Jayne Green who runs the dance school. It was set up over 30 years ago by her mother, Anne Barrett, who died last year after a long battle with ill health. This year, all monies raised from the raffle and programme sales will be donated to Cancer Research UK in memory of Anne.
Jayne is delighted with the progress the children are making. She said, “It’s been a lot of hard work to put the show together this year and a lot of fun too! The students have put in great effort and we’re looking forward to the performance in a few weeks’ time!”
