The stunning Pink Floyd classic ‘The Dark Side of the Moon’ is to be performed live in a show at a special fundraising event at Melksham Assembly Hall on Saturday 7th November.
The album, an all-time great, will be included in a performance by Devizes-based band Purple Fish. The event which is being promoted by Melksham Music Festival is to raise funds for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance.
The album, released in 1973, became iconic and is frequently listed as one of the greatest albums ever released. Staggeringly, it remained for 741 weeks in the Billboard Charts between 1973 and 1988. Tracks include “Money”, “Breathe”, “Time”, “Us and Them” and the classic “Great Gig in The Sky”.
Tom Sangster of Melksham Music Festival remembers the day at Party in the Park three years ago when the Wiltshire Air Ambulance was called into action to evacuate a severely burned person from the site.
“The incident that day has always stuck in my mind when we were all highly impressed with the way the ambulance service carried out the evacuation of the injured person in a most highly professional manner with skill, speed and efficiency,” he explained. “It is good to fundraise for this most worthy cause.
“The air ambulance charity needs to raise £2.5million a year to keep the vital service flying. We are also pleased to welcome and value the sponsorship support of Melksham companies Moles Brewery, Sign Marketing and Co-operative Funeralcare.”
Purple Fish has built a fine reputation for their interpretations of rock classics, and besides ‘Dark Side’ their show will include some other great Floyd songs. The evening will kick off with a first half set of top tracks covering artists such as AC/DC, Tina Turner, ZZ Top, Toto, Huey Lewis, Robert Palmer and many others.
The second set will see a performance of the whole of ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ complete with five piece band, superb backing singers and sax player, amazing projection and lighting.
This will be a standing event though there will be limited seating available. Tickets are now on sale at £15, from Melksham Assembly Hall, Melksham Tourist Information Centre and on-line (plus booking fee) from www.ticketsource .co.uk/melkshammusic festival
