A real treat is in store for Pink Floyd fans! Devizes-based band, Purple Fish, purveyors of classic and prog rock, will perform a spectacular version of the time-honoured Pink Floyd album “The Dark Side of the Moon” at Melksham Assembly Hall on Saturday 7th November.
The album, released in 1973, became iconic and is frequently listed as one of the greatest albums ever released. Staggeringly, it remained for 741 weeks in the Billboard Charts between 1973 and 1988. Tracks include “Money”, “Breathe”, “Time”, “Us and Them” and the classic “Great Gig in The Sky”.
The event, promoted by Melksham Musical Festival, will be in support of the Wiltshire Air Ambulance.
With sell-out events Purple Fish has built a fine reputation for their interpretations of rock classics, and besides ‘Dark Side’ their show will include some other great Floyd songs. The evening will kick off with a first half set of top tracks covering artists such as Robert Palmer, AC/DC, Tina Turner, ZZ Top, Fleetwood Mac, Labelle, and many others.
The second set will see a performance of the whole of Dark Side of the Moon complete with five-piece band, superb backing singers and sax player, amazing projection and lighting. Classically trained singer Adrienne (who always wanted to sing rock!) gives a stunning performance at each gig, and Mark (vocals and guitar) weighs in with all his experience from touring as “Mick Jogger” with top tribute bands The Rolling Clones and The Rolling Zones.
The show on Saturday 7th November will see doors open at 7.30pm, with the show starting at 8.30pm. This will be a standing event although there will be limited seating available.) Cheryl Johnson, head of fundraising and communications at Wiltshire Air Ambulance said, “We are very grateful to the organisers of the show for raising money for Wiltshire Air Ambulance.
“Money raised by the community is vital in keeping our lifesaving service operational. Wiltshire Air Ambulance has been saving lives for 25 years and attends all kinds of incidents, from road traffic collisions, sporting injuries to medical emergencies, such as heart attacks and strokes. As a charity, we need to raise £2.5million a year to keep this vital service flying.
“Following a public consultation event on August 12th, we are developing plans for our proposed new home to base the helicopter, aircrew and charity team. Our preferred site is on land at Outmarsh Farm, Semington, near Melksham. This location is centrally located which would enable the helicopter to reach anywhere in the county within 11 minutes.”
