WHAT a difference two weeks makes! After a string of disappointing performances, Melksham Town have answered their critics with two convincing wins – including a 10-0 demolition of Wells.
Manager Kieran Baggs hopes that Town can put their poor form in the past and go on to put pressure on the top of the league. Kieran said, “We’ve got lads back from injury and lads who have been away have returned, so we are back to full strength and back to winning ways.
“It’s unfortunate that we have been affected by injuries and absence, but we don’t have the money to cover players who are away. So it has been a struggle.”
Town’s upward trend began at home against Hengrove. “We needed to win against Hengrove to boost the team’s confidence, so it was great to come away with a 2-0 win.
“To be honest, the performance of the team was okay, it was a routine match and could have been a 3 or 4-0 win. But, it was great to win and concede no goals.
“It was a good win, a boost for the confidence and it helped to get the ball rolling and draw a line under the poor form of recent weeks.”
With one win under their belts, Town played away to Wells City. “On paper the Wells City game should have been a sticky situation. So to go on and win so emphatically is just incredible. It was an unbelievable performance.
“The lads were up 5-0 at half-time, so to keep up that enthusiasm and score another 5 goals, well, you couldn’t ask for more.
“I have to mention Gary Higdon who scored 4 goals at the weekend. His goal scoring record for the club is just incredible. Also, for Luke Ballinger to come back from injury and score a hat-trick is an amazing achievement!
“Winning 10-0 will have the rest of the league sitting up and taking notice of Melksham. We’re just short of teams like Street, Buckland and Bradford, so hopefully we can continue performing like this and continue putting pressure on them.”
Looking ahead to the rest of the year, Kieran said, “Moving forward we need to take one game at a time and continue our good form. Come December, we will look at where we are in the league and reassess what we need to.”
