Melksham’s third Daytime Disco has been praised by residents after more than 100 people aged 55+ came together to dance, socialise and enjoy an afternoon of music.
The event, organised by Age UK Wiltshire, saw 141 residents enjoy songs from the 1960s through to the 1980s at Melksham Assembly Hall on 3rd July.
Resident Sue Mortimer praised the event, saying it was enjoyed by everyone who attended.
“A big thank you to all of the staff involved in hosting Melksham’s Daytime Disco. It was great to see 100+ people there having fun, relaxing, socialising and listening to the music,” she said. “It really was a huge success.”

The Daytime Disco is organised by Age UK Wiltshire in partnership with Get Out Get Active and aims to help residents aged 55+ get active and socialise with others. It has been held in Melksham three times, as well as other towns across Wiltshire.
Alex Turner from Age UK Wiltshire said, “It means so much to us to see so many people enjoying themselves so freely. One family member told us their mum had a dance and it was ‘just a delight to see that little glint in her eye which I’ve not seen for ages.’ Moments like that are exactly why Age UK Wiltshire runs these events. Getting older doesn’t have to mean giving up the things that bring us joy, and a dance to some great music can lift the spirits like nothing else.”

Residents from local care home Blenheim House also attended the event. A member of the care home’s team said, “Our residents had an absolutely wonderful time, dancing, singing along to some classic tunes, and proving that you’re never too old to get down and boogie.”
The next Daytime Discos to take place in Melksham will be on Friday 20th November, Friday 5th February 2027 and Friday 19th March 2027.
