FRIENDS and family of Harry Harding will soon find out what was in his red box, months after the teenager from Melksham filmed his round on TV’s ‘Deal or No Deal.’
The 19 year old engineer from Melksham, applied to go on the show back in 2013 and after a rigorous audition process, was given the chance to win up to £250,000 in the dream factory. Since then, he’s had to keep a tight lip on how well he did.
Harry said, “I used to watch the programme quite a lot and one day I just thought, I think I’ll apply to be a contestant. The application form was about 10 pages long and you get asked some very bizarre questions but I was just very honest and didn’t over exaggerate anything.
“I had two separate auditions which were both in Bristol. For the first one I had to stand in front of a group of people and was judged on how confident I was at talking whilst being filmed. Then I had to do a second audition with the producers to explain why I wanted the money and what I would do with it. Obviously I can’t say how much I won, but for me the money was only ever going to be an added extra, I just wanted to go on the show for the experience.
“It’s been really difficult keeping it a secret for so long. A few members of my family know what I won because they came along to watch the show, so they’ve also had to keep quiet about it, I think they will be relieved when the show finally airs.
“For the first show I was quite nervous about the filming and meeting Noel Edmonds, but after a few shows you get used to it and it’s like ‘it’s just Noel Edmonds’, plus you’re so engrossed in people’s games, you forget you’re being filmed.
“It’s exactly how it is on the TV, everyone gets really close and wants everyone to do really well. I made some good friends on the show and we all still keep in touch. It gets very tense and quite emotional as the games go on.
“It was a brilliant experience and I’m so glad I did it. I’m really looking forward to everyone watching my show to see how I did, it’s going to be strange watching it back though. I don’t know when it will be aired, but I do know that it will be in the last week of October.”
Deal or No Deal is on Channel 4 Monday-Friday 1.10pm.
