An application detailing the designs, layout and landscaping of 210 homes on land south of Western Way has been submitted, marking the next stage in the site’s development.
The site already has planning permission for 210 homes and a 70-bed care home, but the revised plans focus on the appearance, landscaping, layout and scale of the development.
The development will
include a range of properties, from one-bedroom flats to four-bedroom detached houses. Barratt Homes will be developing the housing, but not the care home.
Planning permission was granted in 2023 after an appeal. Wiltshire Council had previously refused the application, but a planning inspector overturned the decision following a hearing at Melksham Town Hall.
Melksham Without Parish Council had objected to the plans for homes on the site, citing concerns over access and the loss of the green buffer between Bowerhill and Melksham. Following the successful appeal, the site was allocated in the Melksham Neighbourhood Plan 2, making it part of the town’s future housing allocations.
The design plans are currently being consulted on by Wiltshire Council, with comments invited
until 24th October. To view the application visit: https://development.wiltshire.gov.uk/pr/s/planning-application/a0iQ300000GccKn/pl202507391
