MELKSHAM is in for a treat at the end of June as Destiny Africa Children’s Choir return to the town for the 5th time since 2008.
“If you’ve seen the choir perform, you’ll agree that Destiny Africa are so much more than a choir -their concerts are full of traditional and modern dancing, drumming and testimonies as well as singing,” said Sharon Firth.
“The choir comes from Kampala Children’s Centre (KCC) in Uganda which was established in 2005 to give a home and a voice to vulnerable children in Uganda affected by poverty, disease and the legacy of war. KCC not only provides a loving family home, but also excellent education, training, access to healthcare and support as the children grow and develop into adulthood.
“Through sponsorship, the Centre also looks after children in the community with many educated on-site. Employment in the local area has risen through staffing and the continual development of the site. Currently there is a kindergarten and primary school, clinic, farm, workshop and offices with a secondary school under construction, as well as 10 children’s homes with a plan to build many more.
“On 27th June Destiny Africa will spend the day at Forest and Sandridge Primary School, giving workshops in drumming, singing and dancing for some of the pupils before performing a concert open to the public at 6:30pm.
“On 30th June the choir will be performing a short concert at Blenheim House Care Home at 2:30pm, again open to all who would like to come.
“On 1st July the grand finale of Destiny Africa’s Melksham visit will be a concert in the Assembly Hall at 7:00pm.
