MELKSHAM Bloomers are hosting an information evening next week for anyone interested in joining the group.
The volunteers can often be spotted around the town tending to flower displays and sprucing the place up – but they need your help.
Due to the effects of the pandemic, membership numbers have dropped, and now the group are appealing for volunteers to fill a number of roles.
On behalf of the group, Terri Welch said, “The Melksham Bloomers work with the town council team to enhance our town, organising the Town Tidy days throughout the year and looking after some planters and areas.
“But like so many organisations Covid, has played havoc with membership numbers. There have only been four Bloomers trying to keep on top of the work, and two of these members work full-time, it has been hard work.
“More people are needed, and not just gardeners – treasurers, handy-people, school liaison people, people to water the planters, to weed them, to plan for the future – this is just the start!
“So we are having an information evening in the Friends garden, the community space located behind the former spiritualist church on King Street, on Tuesday 10th August at 7pm. Why not come down and see how you can become involved and keep our town looking good.”
Melksham Bloomers and the town council recently welcomed judges from the Royal Horticultural Society to judge the town for the South West in Bloom competition. The judges assessed the town for its flowers, community involvement, and environmental ‘care’ cleanliness.
The results will not be known until October but the town is hoping for another Gold award.
