With the schools now broken up for the summer, Wiltshire Police is asking parents and carers, ‘Do you know where your kids are?’
This follows an incident in Melksham over a weekend where a group of children were assaulted by another child in a park.
Wiltshire Police reports, “It happened at around 4.30pm on Saturday 27th July when a group of 11-year-old boys were in the skate park next to King George V Park. They were approached by another child, believed to be around eight or nine, who tried to take their bikes and then punched two of them.”
PC Tom Crabtree, from Wiltshire West Community Policing Team adds, “We know the park would have been very busy on a Saturday afternoon and we are hoping people may have seen the incident and can help with our enquiries.
“If you saw the altercation, or believe you may know who the young boy is, then please call us.
“This also raises the wider issue of parents making sure they know where their children are and what they are getting up to over the summer holidays.
“Across Wiltshire and Swindon we are being called out to an increased number of incidents involving young people – particularly around anti-social behaviour – and we need parents to support us.
“Please keep a close eye on what your children are doing, who they are hanging around with, and where they are going. We appreciate it’s not always possible to know exactly what is happening, but we do need parents to take responsibility for their children.”
