The Devizes Eisteddfod, the region’s principal competitive arts festival, is launching a new presentation this month with the promoting of a showcase team, 20 outstanding young performers aged 11-18 who have been selected following their excellent performances during the 2019 Eisteddfod last November.
The showcase team will be presenting four concerts in Wiltshire over the coming months, the first taking place in Seend Village Church on Saturday 21st March at 7.30pm.
The 18 performers performing at this concert will include pianists, string, woodwind and brass players, singers as well as items given by promising young actors. These young people have been selected from the many hundreds of young people who took part last November, all showing outstanding promise.
Eisteddfod director, Michael Johnson said, “I am delighted to be giving these exceptionally gifted young people the opportunity this year to perform to different audiences around the county and give them much needed concert experience’.
Further concerts have been organized to take place in All Cannings, Marlborough and Bishops Cannings later in the year. Each presentation will be in aid of the church where the concerts are given, or for a notable regional charity.
Tickets for the March concert in Seend are £7.50 (students free) which includes a programme and an interval drink and are obtainable from Seend Post Office and Stores or from 01380 827139. Any unsold tickets will be available on the door on the night.
Also launched now is the 2020 Syllabus, giving full details of five days of classes for people of all ages, due to take place 12-14 and 21/22 November in five venues around the town. For further information about the 2020 Eisteddfod go to the Eisteddfod on: www.devizes-eisteddfod.org.uk.
