MELKSHAM Extended Services has officially launched ‘Opportunity Melksham’ at an event held at Well House Manor.
Opportunity Melksham is a chance for people to gain help, support and guidance as they look for work in the local area and wider afield.
The project culminates in a jobs fair set to be staged on Saturday 15th March 2014. The fair is expected to attract many major local employers including Herman Miller who are due to move to a site on Bowerhill. Jon Hubbard also announced at the Opportunity Melksham launch that one of Alan Sugar’s apprentices from the popular TV show is expected to be appearing to give advice and talk about their experiences. Other features of the fair, which will be staged at the Assembly Hall and the Town Hall, include seminars with key speakers, an insight into care careers, workshops on completing CVs and applications, as well as advice and guidance from experts on setting up your own business.
Chair of Extended Services, Jon Hubbard said, “This is a fantastic opportunity for people to come to Melksham and get a real insight into developing a career and increase their skill set in applying for jobs and finding employment.
“This is open to everyone, we are not just targeting young people, we want everybody to benefit from this great event. Although we are helping lead the event, we see it as a community-led project that can benefit the wider community.”
MP Duncan Hames also attended the launch and said, “I see Opportunity Melksham as very relevant to this town as the words opportunity and Melksham go hand-in-hand.
“Things in local government or central government can take time to happen, but for Melksham things are moving quickly and in the right direction. Things like the increased train service due to start and Herman Miller prove that Melksham is growing and is an attractive town for people to invest in.
“It’s great to see the private and public sector coming together to help Melksham work. Working together and the way everyone supports each other in Melksham is one of the strengths of the town and Opportunity Melksham will allow people to use those expertise and experiences.”
