MELKSHAM Assembly Hall is reopening its doors this month for its Film Club, for some special screenings of festive film classics.
Four films will be shown in the run up to Christmas that are guaranteed to get you feeling festive and in the mood for celebrations.
On Friday 11th December, the film club presents Henry Selick’s spooky stop-motion musical festive favourite, ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’.
“The film follows the misadventures of Jack Skellington, Halloweentown’s beloved pumpkin king, who has become bored with the same annual routine of frightening people in the “real world.”
The film’s synopsis says, “When Jack accidentally stumbles on Christmastown, all bright colours and warm spirits, he gets a new lease on life – he plots to bring Christmas under his control by kidnapping Santa Claus and taking over the role. But Jack soon discovers even the best-laid plans of mice and skeleton men can go seriously awry.”
On Saturday 12th December, the Film Club presents all the madness and mayhem of the Griswald family Christmas in the classic film ‘National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation’.
The film’s synopsis says, “As the holidays approach, Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) wants to have a perfect family Christmas, so he pesters his wife, Ellen (Beverly D’Angelo), and children, as he tries to make sure everything is in line, including the tree and house decorations. However, things go awry quickly.”
On Friday 18th December, the Film Club goes back to the 80s with the comedy horror film, ‘Gremlins’.
The film’s synopsis says, “A gadget salesman is looking for a special gift for his son and finds one at a store in Chinatown. The shopkeeper is reluctant to sell him the “mogwai” but sells it to him with the warning to never expose him to bright light, water, or to feed him after midnight. All of this happens and the result is a gang of gremlins that decide to tear up the town on Christmas Eve.”
On Sunday 20th December, get in the mood for Christmas with the timeless classic, ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’.
The film’s synopsis says, “George Bailey has so many problems he is thinking about ending it all – and it’s Christmas! As the angels discuss George, we see his life in flashback. As George is about to jump from a bridge, he ends up rescuing his guardian angel, Clarence – who then shows George what his town would have looked like if it hadn’t been for all his good deeds over the years.”
The venue, which successfully reopened for a brief time prior to the start of the second national lockdown, has social distancing measures in place to ensure its visitors and staff comply with current Covid restrictions.
