THE Environment Agency is investigating the death of a ‘large number’ of fish in Clackers Brook, which is suspected to have been caused by pollution.

Residents reported the incident, discovered in the brook running through the Primrose Nature Area, on Sunday 30th January.
The Environment Agency says that they have traced the ‘likely source’ of the pollution, but are “unable to say too much at this stage”.
An Environment Agency Spokesperson told Melksham News, “We were alerted to reports of pollution in Clackers Brook on Sunday. An Environment officer attended the site and saw dead fish and what appeared to be pollution. By the following day the pollution had dispersed but follow up visits and sampling have enabled us to trace the likely source.
“Our officers will still be present on site whilst they assess any damage to the environment. You can report any suspected pollution to our 24 hour incident hotline 0800 80 70 60.”
