St Nicholas Primary School in the village of Bromham is undergoing a transformation under the leadership of its new headteacher, who was appointed earlier this year.
Following the appointment of Mrs Clare Kitts as headteacher, the school has been given a renewed focus on extending children’s learning, enriching the curriculum, and expanding the school day with a new wraparound care provision. In the near future, there will also be a new pre-school provision on-site.
“Bromham Primary School has a long tradition of outdoor learning which makes the most of the beautiful and extensive grounds along with easy access to the surrounding village and farmland,” says the school. “Mrs Kitts enjoys taking part in outdoor activities outside of school, and understands the value of this for personal and academic development in a school setting. The school makes deliberate use of the rural location to mix indoor and outdoor learning. The ethos and values of the school are very close to Mrs Kitts’ heart, emphasising kindness, optimism, having a go and resilience.”
She said, “The school is like a family. With small classes, we are able to build strong relationships with the children and their families enabling us to support and challenge children in their learning journey.”
The school has recently been recognised with a variety of awards including a Bronze School Games award, the Wiltshire Music Mark and the Sing Wiltshire status, which reflects the headteacher’s strong belief in providing children with a variety of opportunities outside of the main curriculum.
The school offers a range of after-school activities free of charge which include gardening and Forest School, in addition to choir and sports clubs. Tuition with trained musicians in piano and guitar is available.
“We have strong links with the village community, including the church, and have a ‘welcoming and supportive’ parent network,” added the school. “The Parent Teachers Association (PTA) is brilliant at fundraising and is very supportive, helping to enrich day-to-day activities at the school. The Christmas Pudding Run is key to the school’s fundraising and is a seasonal treat for the village.”
If you would like to find out more about the school, there is an open afternoon on Tuesday 22nd October from 1.30pm to 3pm. There is no need to book. Alternatively, call the school to arrange a personalised tour.
