ST Michael’s Church, in Canon Square, is hosting its first ‘Nativity Festival’ this week.
The festival will offer visitors the chance to enjoy a variety of nativity scenes depicting the birth of Jesus Christ, with some scenes donated by the community.
Organisers are appealing for more people to lend them their nativity scenes from home, to help make the festival a success.
On behalf of the church, Ruth Fivash said, “Many people have small ornaments of the nativity scene, which come out at Christmas, these are what we hope people will lend us for the festival. It would be nice if they could also share a little story too, about how they came by their nativity scene.
“Anyone wanting to lend their scene can bring them to St Michael’s Church on Friday 14th December between 11am and 3 pm, where either Sheena, Carol or Ruth will be happy to receive them. All scenes will be returned when the festival ends”
The ‘Nativity Festival’ will run from Saturday 15th December until Wednesday 19th December at St Michael’s Church from 11am until 4pm. Entry is free. There will also be seasonal refreshments available. “Come along and see the many nativity scenes and experience the true meaning of Christmas,” said Ruth.
As part of the festival, there will be a ‘Crib Service’ on Sunday 16th December at the church from 10.15am. During the service the main nativity scene at the church altar will be prepared. There will also be carols and readings about the festival of Christmas.
