FORMER town councillor, Adrienne Westbrook, has returned to take up the role, filling a vacancy left by Diane Wnek’s resignation last year.
Councillor Westbrook was the only nomination for the vacant seat so was elected unopposed. She was a town councillor until three years ago and is a former mayor of the town. She is continually active in the local community, notably as the chair of Melksham Food and River Festival for the past two years.
Cllr Westbrook said, “One of the best things about being involved in Melksham activities is the huge support that events get from the public. It’s an amazing market town and I am proud to live here and to support the groups from the area.
“As a councillor I am interested in improving services for local residents, which is a very difficult task at the moment as austerity measures start to bite. However, it now becomes even more important to look at how Melksham Town Council can keep our vital services going and support the town.”
As an ex-primary school teacher, children’s amenities are important to cllr Westbrook and she hopes to support the town council in improving local amenities, particularly play areas.
She will also be supporting the campus working group in moving the much-anticipated project forward.
