Families create new homes for local wildlife

Local children have helped build 25 homes for wildlife during free half term workshops in Melksham.

Melksham Town Council hosted the workshops on Tuesday 27th October, with both sessions fully booked.

More than 25 people took part, with families making hedgehog homes, bat boxes and bug houses using recycled timber donated by Timber Tack and straw from Pets Corner in Melksham.

Supported by members of the Town Team, families followed step-by-step guides to build the habitats while learning basic woodworking skills and how they can help local wildlife.

The completed homes will be installed in parks, allotments and other green spaces around Melksham, providing shelter for wildlife and supporting biodiversity.

Cllr Adrienne Westbrook said, “It was lovely to pop in today to the Assembly Hall and see the families enjoying making hedgehog houses.

“Everyone was engaged in producing the houses, learning skills of resilience, following instructions and basic assembly. I look forward to seeing the houses in our green space areas.”
