Melksham’s Stealth Brew Co has opened a new tap room at its Shurnhold brewery, giving locals the chance to enjoy fresh beer brewed on site.
Located near the railway station, the tap room occupies a converted former railway building next to the brewery that was previously used for storage. Following a recent refurbishment, the building now features a welcoming bar that opens onto a large, south-facing garden – catching the sun throughout the day and offering space for drinkers and families to relax.
To mark the opening, the brewery is holding a family day on Saturday 2nd May, with live music, games for children and adults and a range of draught beers served fresh from the brewery. The event is intended to welcome both regular customers and local families wanting to see the new venue for the first time.
Stealth Brew Co is run by owner and brewer Malcolm Shipp and his wife Karen, and the pair have long hoped to make the brewery more accessible to the public.

“It’s about time,” said Malcolm. “We’ve always wanted a closer connection with people here at the brewery, but other projects and our pub businesses have taken up much of the last couple of years.”
Among the beers on offer is Covert, the brewery’s flagship pale ale, brewed with local malt and American Citra hops which is both vegan and gluten free, and Tiptoe, a 4.2% amber best bitter for those who prefer a more traditional ale.
“The response to the tap room has already been encouraging, with visitors arriving not only from further afield but also from nearby homes on this side of the railway,” added Malcolm.

“A lot of people here don’t have a single shop within walking distance, let alone somewhere local to meet for a drink. It’s been really nice welcoming neighbours who perhaps hadn’t visited us before. The open day is chance for our regulars and anyone new to come and take a look.”
The brewery has also recently started canning beer on site, allowing customers to take Stealth Brew Co beers home to enjoy. While some repairs and maintenance work is currently under way, plans are in place to offer guided tours and informal talks at the brewery in the near future.
